RATE IT! Golden Weekend

The first major awards show of the season hits television this Sunday -- the 68th annual Golden Globes.

Celebrating film *and* television, the Golden Globes are always much more relaxed, and well... more fun than its sister award show, the Oscars®. Sure, the Globes often get slammed for nominating celebs that the Hollywood Foreign Press gang want to schmooze with... but really, who cares? I don't! It's a good excuse to see all the top stars of the moment, posing up a storm along the red carpet, and trying not to look shocked when the envelope doesn't call out their name.

I'm most stoked to see the 'Mad Men' crew - but of course - and I'm hoping Andrew Lincoln from 'The Walking Dead' is there to cheer on his show's nomination. Yeah, I'm kinda all about AMC this year. Ricky Gervais is back to host so we should be in for a good evening all around!

RATE IT! Sterling's Gold

Are you a fan of Mad Men? Okay... are you a fan of Roger Sterling, specifically? If you are, I have the book for you!

'Sterling's Gold: Wit & Wisdom of an Ad Man' is a snicker-worthy little book that came out last Fall. Chock full of quotes from John Slattery's alter ego, it's a very quick yet delightfully funny read. I received it for Christmas and it was one of my favourite gifts.

Inside you'll find lots of Sterling-isms on drinking, clients and life in general. If you find yourself giggling at Roger's inappropriateness time and time again, you'll love this book.

RATE IT! Hallowe'en Hamm

Tomorrow night's episode of 'Saturday Night Live' has all the ingredients to make it a season stand-out.

Third-timer, Jon Hamm -- Don Draper of 'Mad Men -- will be stepping up to host. Unlike the ad man he portrays in his day job, Jon has instinctual comic timing, and is game for pretty much any embarrassing situation the SNL cast dare to concoct. Sergio, anyone?

And it's Hallowe'en!!! Well, Hallowe'en eve. I'm guessing that Bill Hader's Vincent Price will make an appearance... and the last time SNL's Hallowe'en show had Hamm as host, the VP skit was a scream. More, please!

Who needs trick or treating when SNL is gonna be so ghoulish to watch?

RATE IT! Hamming it Up on GQ

British GQ are showcasing their men of the year in their October 2010 issue .... and Mad Men's Jon Hamm gets the cover treatment.

Oooh, la la - yes, please!

Here's a selection of his moody b&w shots from inside the issue.

UPDATE: Jon is also on the cover of October's issue of Details magazine, PLUS he's been confirmed as the October 30th host of Saturday Night Live! Can't wait!

RATE IT! Don Draper Does Rolling Stone

I can't recall the last time I picked up Rolling Stone magazine but this week I think that I'll make an exception.

On first glance it's almost difficult to locate Don Draper through all those breasts! Look at cheeky Peggy! Va va voom!

Joan - a gorgeous siren as always.

Betty - nice bitch face, doll! Am I the only one who thinks the series has been great this season with only a sprinkling of Betty?

RATE IT! Mad Men Cocktail Culture

Dying to know what ingredients go into a Vodka Gimlet? Want to add some retro cool to your next party? Well, it's obviously time to belly up to the bar alongside this new, free Mad Men Cocktail Culture iPhone app.

Try your hand at concocting all sorts of fancy drinks and see how you stack up. With a bunch of recipes at hand, you'll soon be everyone's favourite mixologist.

It's just a shame that Don Draper doesn't come with it.

It's refreshing to see "Mad Men" star, Christina Hendricks gracing the cover of the UK's September issue of GQ magazine.

Simply smashing!

RATE IT! The Women of Mad Men

Summer television viewing just got more exciting with the return of "Mad Men" this coming Sunday.

Will Betty go through with her plans to divorce Don? Will Peggy make the ad agency boys' club a thing of the past? And will Joan ever find true happiness? So many questions, so little time!

While we wait for Sunday to arrive, check out this segment featuring the women of "Mad Men" answering even more questions!

RATE IT! New W, New Hamm

Wow!

While this new "W" magazine cover is not for 'Mad Men', it has to be said that Jon Hamm cannot return to our TV screens soon enough.

This magazine feature is for his new movie, 'The Town' directed by Ben Affleck.

RATE IT! Don of a New Era

Wahey! The first sneak peeks from the upcoming fourth season of 'Mad Men' have finally been released to press and fans alike! Time to scour each and every shot for plot clues and spoilers...

Hmm, can't spot anything juicy just yet but it appears that Don & co., having gone renegade from Sterling Cooper, have some decorating to do in that new office. At least with the bar missing, perhaps they'll get some work done. And check out Peggy's early '60s do! Is it just me or does she look much older? Not sure about wiser though.

'Mad Men' returns to North American TV screens on July 25 on AMC. Bring it!

RATE IT! Don Returns!

Summer TV viewing has now been saved!

'Mad Men', the season 4 edition, will be getting its retro groove on in time for July 25 on AMC in North America.

I'm so thankful that the TV gods waited to schedule Don Draper's dramatic return until *after* the World Cup wraps up on July 11. Yes, my viewing habits are that schizo.

There are so many 'Mad Men' questions gagging to be answered: will Betty seriously dump Don & go through with the divorce? Will campy Sal return (I hope so!)? Will any sparks reignite between Roger & Joan (I hope so, too!)? And will Roger and Don really be able to work together so closely? I mean, they're all piled on top of one another in that Manhattan hotel room... oh, stop! Dirty minds, the lot of you!

RATE IT! Mad Men Season 3 DVDs

Hurrah! Today sees the release of the DVD set of the third season of 'Mad Men.'

Another great season -- with the incredible JFK assassination episode ---plus one of the best season finales *ever*.

You'll never look at a John Deere lawnmower the same again...

RATE IT! Mad Men Go Plastic

Following upon the success of their 'X-Files' and 'I Love Lucy' TV-themed dolls, this summer Mattel will be unveiling their latest pop culture cross-over ~ 'Mad Men' inspired "Barbie" dolls!

There's Don, Roger, Betty and -- yes! -- Joan! For $75 a pop, they can be your's.

Looks like Barbie just might be in luck! With the Draper marriage crumbling beyond repair, she can kick Ken to the curb and get some Madison Avenue action!

Big thanks to Gabrielle for the tip!

RATE IT! Sergio!

Wacky with a nod to the freaky greased up sax guy featured in "Lost Boys", here's the SNL Digital Short from this past weekend's Jon Hamm-infused episode.

Be careful who you cross!

RATE IT! Hamm & Buble

Shame Mad Men's Jon Hamm can't be the host of SNL *every* weekend.

Here's one of the silliest sketches from this past weekend's show. Kudos to Canadian crooner, Michael Buble for being a great sport! Perhaps Lorne Michaels will invite him back to host *and* be the musical guest -- he's got the comedic chops to pull it off.

Apologies to readers who cannot view this clip -- NBC has geo-blocked certain regions. Damn, them!!

RATE IT! Second Helping of Hamm

Saturday cannot arrive fast enough.

The loose lips of 'Mad Men' star Rich Sommer were ... correct! Yes, "Harry Crane", you must know a little something about the ol' telly because as you promised, your co-star, Jon Hamm WILL be hosting 'Saturday Night Live' this coming weekend!

If Jon's original turn on SNL is anything to go by, his sophomore effort will be stellar & a definite must see. Funny too because NBC hasn't been "must see TV" for ages!

HATE IT! No Sal-vation

NOOOO!!!!!

Rotten TV news of the day...

Bryan Batt, who portrays 'Sal Romano' on "Mad Men" WON'T be returning for next season.

Sal's return was the one plot line missing from that incredible season finale a few months back.

What a loss. :(
