RATE IT! Gab & Dad

Have you had the pleasure of meeting Gab & Dad? Many of you have but if you haven't made their acquaintance, please let me do the honours.

Gab and Dad are a daughter-father team who dish up the latest in movie reviews. Witty, and intelligent with a dose of family fun, Gab & Dad are a must-visit YouTube destination. And I can personally vouch that they're lovely people to boot!

Here's their latest.... discussing 'The Social Network' otherwise known as the Facebook movie... which makes me ask, Gab! When, oh when will you be signing up?? You'd have such fun over there, my dear friend! And Philip, where's my FB friend invite?

HATE IT! From Twitter to TV

Did you manage to survive an entire episode of 'Shit My Dad Says?' No? Well, you're not alone. Apparently, the popular blog/Twitter account does not make for good telly viewing. Now, there's a surprise!

What's an even bigger shock is that CBS is rumoured to be morphing yet another Twitter feed into a television program. Apparently Twitter addict, actor & producer, Ashton Kutcher is somewhat to blame as his production company is involved in the program's development. Their target: Shh...Don't Tell Steve ~ a silly bunch of tweets revealing the odd behaviour of a weird roommate called Steve.

Isn't this fascination with Twitter going a little bit too far? Now I must admit that I love Twitter but reading fun posts on the web does not necessarily make for enjoyable television. If 'Shit My Dad Says' doesn't prove that theory, I guess nothing will.

RATE IT! Bottle

I'm a sucker for a cool short, and if it involves stop motion animation or claymation (Gumby!), all the better!

Here's a lovely bit of animation created by filmmaker, Kirsten Lepore called "Bottle" ~ courtesy of New York magazine's website.

You won't look at your snowman or sand castle monster the same ever again!

RATE IT/HATE IT! Blake's Allure

Gossip Girl starlet (and femme fatale of Ben Affleck's 'The Town'), Blake Lively brings a whole lot of pretty to the October issue of Allure magazine.

The thing is... there's some wacky airbrushing going on here. She looks lovely and all, but her eyes look almost other-worldly and her skin looks immaculate - almost Barbie doll-ish in its perfection.

Does such a good looking girl require this much retouching? I don't think so.

RATE IT! Hamming it Up on GQ

British GQ are showcasing their men of the year in their October 2010 issue .... and Mad Men's Jon Hamm gets the cover treatment.

Oooh, la la - yes, please!

Here's a selection of his moody b&w shots from inside the issue.

UPDATE: Jon is also on the cover of October's issue of Details magazine, PLUS he's been confirmed as the October 30th host of Saturday Night Live! Can't wait!

RATE IT! No Pets Allowed

As the proud owner of Zoey, I despise the 'no pets allowed' thing. Reminds me of the Peanuts animated movie, 'Snoopy Come Home' where the deep bass voice would shill 'No Dogs Allowed' whenever Snoopy wanted to do something important. Killjoy!

Alas, this "No Pets Allowed" is a completely different beast. A new animated film from Josep Pozo is in the works ~ here's a little video taster of the delights yet to come!

Unfortunately, the gorgeous Schipperke featured at left does not star -  maybe next time!

RATE IT! Nuvo Joshua Jackson

Pacey gets stylin'!

Fringe star, Josh Jackson gets back to his Canadian roots appearing in Nuvo, a slick lifestyle magazine from his hometown of Vancouver.

In the article, Joshua mentions how award shows are painfully boring - unless you're nominated. No doubt he had a great time at the last Genie Awards here in Canada this past April when he carted away the Best Actor trophy for his beautiful turn in 'One Week.'

If you haven't seen this movie, rent/buy it NOW!

HATE IT! Spare Us the LiLo-Down

UGH!!

File under "We Gave Up Caring Back in 2007"...

Yes, Vanity Fair is foisting Lindsay Lohan upon us once again. Granted, the photo of LiLo is quite pretty but really.... do we need to hear about her so-called tragic life yet again

Well done, VF -- you've just published yet another issue that no one will purchase.

Yes, it's a mini plunger -- to bail you out of iPhone emergencies of the video kind. Want to have one of those new iPhone4 video conversations but need to prop up your phone? This gadget is for you.

Take the plunge!

RATE IT! SNL Ready to Launch

Saturday Night Live has announced the first line-up of guest hosts for this upcoming (its 36th) season.

Alum, Amy Poehler will kick off proceedings as host for the season premiere Saturday, September 25. 'Breaking Bad' Emmy winner, Bryan Cranston will be following suit on Saturday, October 2.

I know that I'm not the only one hoping for Jon Hamm to return. Lorne Michaels, make it so!

RATE IT! Gossip Returns

The kiddies' return to school means one thing in this household -- the Fall TV season is just around the bend.

It's the most wonderful time of the year...indeed!

Despite losing 24, Lost and Ugly Betty at the end of last Spring, there's still an overwhelming selection of old TV favourites to choose from.

Getting a jump on the pack.... Gossip Girl - which kicks off its fourth season next Monday. In the meantime, Blake Lively is featured on the October cover of UK Marie Claire.

For once she's actually looking soft and pretty on a cover shoot. For such an attractive woman, they often put too much makeup on her - this time they got it just right.

RATE IT!/HATE IT! A Bit Nutty

It doesn't matter that the calendar boasts at least three more weeks of summer - when the kiddies trudge back to school, summer is officially kaput.

Now before you throw in the towel, there is one sparkling refreshing treat at the end of this hot, steamy summer. Yes, the latest Dairy Queen Blizzard is here for your ogling pleasure... and you're right on the money if you think we've got a repeat offender on our hands - sorta.

Think back to early January when we *really* had something to complain about where the weather was concerned. Well, back in the first month of 2010, DQ unleashed their Turtle Pecan Cluster Blizzard on the starving masses. It seems the nutty symphony of tastes was a crowd pleaser because the pecan gang is back for more, but this time, they're cleverly disguised as the Pecan Pie Blizzard. Crafty!

Now, my loyalties to all things Blizz does not embrace their treats of the nutty variety so I'll just sit this round out and let all of you passionate pecan lovers line up in the queue first and enjoy your month to celebrate. I'll be waiting for another chocolate-based Blizzard to take its place come early October.

Don't mind me... I'll be quite happy spending the last few days of summer sunshine this September enjoying my lifeline, the Chocolate Xtreme Blizzard. Enjoy, everyone!

RATE IT! Virtual Weight Loss

RATE IT! Don Draper Does Rolling Stone

I can't recall the last time I picked up Rolling Stone magazine but this week I think that I'll make an exception.

On first glance it's almost difficult to locate Don Draper through all those breasts! Look at cheeky Peggy! Va va voom!

Joan - a gorgeous siren as always.

Betty - nice bitch face, doll! Am I the only one who thinks the series has been great this season with only a sprinkling of Betty?
